Beatrice Egli: A bitter defeat for the pop singer

Beatrice Egli, 35, lost the broadcast slot for her “Beatrice Egli Show” in the spring. It was foreseeable that this decision by the broadcaster would also have an impact on the ratings. But had they expected such a bitter defeat?

Beatrice Egli: A bitter defeat for the pop singer

Last Saturday, April 6, 2024, Beatrice Egli went on air for the first time with the new episodes of her show. Instead of being shown in the main program on the first at prime time on Saturday evening, the pop singer had to be content with broadcasting on the third, more precisely on SWR, MDR and NDR. Since then, the program has also been available in the ARD media library. The broadcaster announced this change in March. They have yet to give the public a real explanation. Only at the SWR annual press conference did program director Clemens Bratzler, 52, announce the decision that there was no place for the show in the ARD main program.

Not even a quarter of the viewers of the last editions

Egli had worked hard to get the top broadcast slot and only last year switched from broadcasting on MDR and SWR to the ARD slot. Audience ratings such as the 3.59 million viewers recently announced by the industry magazine DWDL testified to the lively interest on the part of the audience. But now the step backwards – a fiasco. The ratings plummeted – the number crash-landed this Saturday. As “Watson” calculates, only 800,000 people gave the pop singer and her guests their attention and time – less than a quarter of the people watching compared to last year.

Since, as already mentioned, there has been no more detailed statement on the change in broadcasting slots, we can only speculate as to whether the broadcaster had taken the massive drop in viewer numbers into account or whether the decision-makers themselves were surprised by it. In any case, looking at the quota will probably hurt for Beatrice Egli.
