The electric car manufacturer Tesla has to recall new cars imported into China as well as those manufactured there. The reason for this is a software problem that poses security risks. Among other things, the driving assistant is affected.
The US electric car manufacturer Tesla is recalling around 1.6 million cars in China due to a software problem. As the country’s responsible regulatory authority announced, there are problems with the driver assistance system and the door locking. These could lead to safety risks while driving and increase the risk of a vehicle collision, the authority warned.
Specifically affected are 1.61 million imported Model S, Model Solve software update, which is why the affected customers do not have to go to the workshop, as the message stated. The authority warned affected car owners to drive carefully.
In December, Tesla recalled around two million cars in the USA – also because of problems with the driving assistant. This adjusts the speed of the vehicle to the traffic and keeps the vehicle in its lane.
BYD is competing with Tesla
China is an important market for Tesla, with a growing number of customers. In the fourth quarter, the US electric car pioneer said it delivered 484,507 cars to end customers. In the entire year of 2023, the group sold almost 1.81 million cars there and thus achieved its sales target. The production facility in Shanghai produced 900,000 vehicles last year.
However, the domestic car manufacturer BYD is increasingly facing competition in the market of the world’s second largest economy. The Chinese sold more than 526,000 electric cars in the fourth quarter and moved past Tesla into the top spot.
