Fuel prices have only normalized somewhat since their all-time high. Anyone who drives a petrol or diesel engine instead of an e-car will feel the high prices at the pump. A speed limit could force racers to save fuel. A majority of Germans are in favor of 130 km/h on the autobahn.
Speed limit 130 km/h: the majority of Germans want to slow down
If you drive less, you also use less of the expensive fuel – a simple calculation. But it also works when you drive more slowly. The much-discussed speed limit on German autobahns could therefore a real alternative when it comes to saving fuel and energy to keep consumption and costs low for German consumers.
At least the majority of respondents see it this way: 55 percent spoke out in favor of a temporary speed limit of 130 km/h. This was the result of a Civey survey commissioned by Der Spiegel. 39 percent are against such a measure, 6 percent are undecided.

What is striking here is that when it comes to the attitude towards the speed limit, it depends on the center of life of the respondents. The higher the population density, the more willing Germans would be to accept a speed limit. 64 percent vote in favour.
The reason should be clear: there are high population densities in cities or urban conurbations with correspondingly well-developed local transport. The car, which can also cover long distances quickly, is not that important. With low population density – so in rural areas – at 46 percent, no majority is in favor of a speed limit.

Many people would consider introducing a speed limit as a temporary savings measure. However, it is currently not possible to predict whether this will happen. the Government parties disagree on the issue. There is approval from the Greens group, but for the FDP a speed limit is out of the question. The SPD around Chancellor Scholz sits between the chairs.
Other limited-time promotions aimed at relieving consumers are getting mixed reviews. While the 9-euro ticket has received great praise and many are calling for a successor, the fuel discount has been criticized because too few savings reach the citizens.
