The strike by American TV writers and actors is now affecting the fall program on US TV and German series junkies.

The strike by US film and television workers, which has been going on for months, continues to make its mark. As the magazine “People” reports, the TV station ABC is now putting the sequels to various popular and well-known TV series and productions such as “Grey’s Anatomy”, “American Idol” or “The Bachelor” on hold in the fall. This also has an impact on fans in Germany who were looking forward to new series food.

Grey’s Anatomy cannot continue

Since May 2, 2023, around 11,500 screenwriters, all members of the WGA (Writers Guild of America), have been on strike. In July, the American TV and Radio Artists Union (SAG-AFTRA) joined. Since then, many popular TV productions, which also inspire their fans in Germany on free and pay TV, have come to a standstill.

For German fans, the series “Grey’s Anatomy” is probably the most popular. It has been broadcast on German-language TV since 2006 and is currently in its 20th season in the USA if it could be continued. The same applies to the “Grey’s” spin-off “Station 19” and the series “The Good Doctor” about an autistic doctor. The continuation of the doctor series was suspended, as was “Will Trent” about a special agent in Atlanta or “High Potential” about a mother who solves cases as a private investigator in the evenings. In Germany, the series runs under the title “HIP – investigator with murderous IQ” in the first.

Also US “Bachelor” affected

In addition to well-known series, several show productions are also affected, which should start a new season in autumn. The globally popular talent show “American Idol” is the US equivalent of “DSDS” in Germany. In the USA, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie, among others, judge the vocal performances of the candidates. But when Perry, Richie and Co. will give their expert opinion again is not certain.

It is just as unclear when the American “Bachelor” can go back to looking for a woman. He too is one of the victims of the strike for fairer wages for thousands of workers in the US television industry.
