Finn blows up his Tesla
After 1,500 kilometers, it’s over: mishaps and mistakes pile up, and the Finn Tuomas Katainen can no longer drive his used Tesla Model S. But instead of having the vehicle repaired, he opts for an unusual scrapping operation.
The Finn Tuomas Katainen has covered a little more than 1500 kilometers with his used Tesla Model S when the vehicle suddenly causes problems. But instead of having the electric car repaired, the man decides to blow up the vehicle, reports the website EFahrer.com. The repair would have cost the Finns around 20,000 euros, as the entire battery unit would have to be replaced, it was said from the workshop. Too much for Katainen.
“When I bought this Tesla, the first 1500 kilometers were nice. It was an excellent car,” the portal quoted the Finn as saying. But then mistakes and mishaps would have accumulated. After all, driving was no longer possible and Katainen had his 2013 Tesla towed away.
“Every now and then things just go wrong. Then it is time for Finnish intransigence to take the lead,” the website quoted him as saying. The unusual scrapping operation took place near the Finnish village of Jaala. A professional demolition expert had previously attached 30 kilograms of explosives to the car. A video on the Youtube channel Pommijäkät shows how the vehicle is completely destroyed in the explosion.
What Tesla boss Elon Musk thinks of the action is not known. The dazzling electric car and space pioneer was recently named Personality of the Year 2021 by the US magazine “Time”. “Few people have more influence on life on earth and potentially outside of the earth than Elon Musk,” said “Time” editor-in-chief Edward Felsenthal, explaining the decision. The magazine honors the 50-year-old for “creating solutions to an existential crisis, embodying the possibilities and dangers of the age of technology titans and driving forward the most daring and sweeping transformations of society”.
Katainen didn’t seem to be impressed at all.
