Beetlejuice 2: a first teaser full of references for the sequel to Tim Burton’s film

Warner Bros. has posted a tasty first trailer for BeetlejuiceBeetlejuicethe sequel to Tim Burton’s film released in 1988. Expected in theaters on September 11, this new feature film sees Michael Keaton reprise the role of the eccentric “bio-exorcist” and reunite with old playmates.

A long-awaited sequel

It’s been over 35 years since Beetlejuice first haunted cinemas…and now he’s back for a new adventure that director Tim Burton has long envisioned.

BeetlejuiceBeetlejuice will see the Deetz family return to the town of Winter River following a terrible tragedy. Here is the official synopsis: “Still haunted by the memory of Beetlejuice, Lydia sees her life turned upside down when her daughter Astrid, a rebellious teenager, accidentally opens a portal leading to the Afterlife. As chaos hovers over both worlds, it is only a matter of time before someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and that prankster demon comes back to wreak havoc…”

This sequel to the cult horror comedy sees the return of several members of its original cast, including Winona Ryder (Stranger Things) in the guise of Lydia Deetz, Catherine O’Hara (Schitt’s Creek) in the shoes of his mother Delia Deetz, and of course Keaton (Birdman) in Betelgeuse.

Added to this cast are several newcomers, starting with Jenna Ortega (Wednesday) in the role of Astrid, but also Justin Theroux (The Leftovers), Monica Bellucci (Mafia Mamma), Arthur Conti (House of the Dragon) and Willem Dafoe (Poor creatures).

Accompanied by the classic title of Harry Belafonte Day-owhich has already marked a cult sequence of the previous film, these images of BeetlejuiceBeetlejuice will delight fans of the original film with their multiple references to its unique universe.

The feature film was a big success at the box office, bringing in nearly $80 million in revenue upon its release despite being made on a modest budget of $15 million.

Tim Burton (Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow) is of course back behind the camera for this sequel whose screenplay is by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (Wednesday). The film is produced by Marc Toberoff, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Tommy Harper and Burton.

See you in theaters on September 11, 2024 to summon Beetlejuice again!
