Behind the scenes of a Dior show in Mexico

As fashion fiction streams onto streaming platforms, brands are increasingly developing their own video content. For several seasons now, Dior has favored long-format documentaries to tell the behind-the-scenes stories of its cruise collections designed around the history, culture and craftsmanship of a country.

After editions devoted to Greece and Spain, Maria Grazia Chiuri headed to Mexico, inspired in particular by the figure of Frida Kahlo. For almost an hour, the camera traces the creative process of the artistic director of Dior’s women’s lines, who collaborated with several communities of indigenous artisans.

This documentary, broadcast for free on the house’s YouTube channel, highlights their textile and clothing know-how, by filming their actions, but also by giving them a voice, emphasizing the importance of the collective.

Without artifice, the documentary aims to be as educational as it is aesthetic. A film that cultivates the sense of rhythm until its final score: an impressive parade organized in May 2023 in Mexico, in the garden of the former Jesuit college of San Ildefonso, the same place where Frida Kahlo studied. The rain that fell on the models that evening gave the collection a striking poetry and romanticism.
