Behind the scenes of a re-election

Journalist Saveria Rojek recounts Emmanuel Macron’s campaign and a bit more in her book. More than a resurrection – the title of the book* – it is first and foremost the announced chronicle of a victory which the president never doubted.

Did he really doubt his victory? Basically, Emmanuel Macron was sure of himself, sure of his strategy, convinced that weak adversity would not succeed in overthrowing him. Starting with the finalist Marine Le Pen whom he beat for the second time in a row. In her book, Saveria Rojek recounts in a classic way this resurrection which is not really one but which took place within a small circle. “An ultra-secret campaign” which excluded ministers and majority figures. A slogan “With you” imagined behind the scenes by the ghost Ismaël Emelien, close among relatives. In short, a campaign prepared behind closed doors, like a five-year term that Emmanuel Macron managed alone, trusting only Brigitte and Alexis Kohler. The author also describes the relationship with Nicolas Sarkozy: “He deals with Sarko to piss off the right, that’s all,” sums up the walking senator François Patriat.

In the end, this story of victory mixes anecdotes and quotes against a backdrop of political cynicism. “Macron is too handsome, too intelligent, he has succeeded in everything, that’s why the French don’t like him”, theorizes Jean Castex. As for Christophe Castaner, he does not imagine Macron retiring in 2027: “Those who think he will stop after a second term are mistaken.”
