King Charles III: Palace announces return to royal duties

After his cancer diagnosis, King Charles III. (75) underwent treatment and his royal duties were put on hold for the time being. Now his return is apparently imminent. As Buckingham Palace announced on Friday evening (April 26).the monarch will attend an official appointment for the first time next week.

Accordingly, Charles will visit a cancer center next Tuesday. Queen Camilla (76) is supposed to accompany her husband. The visit is one of several official appointments that Charles will attend in the coming weeks, the statement said. The palace also announced that the king and queen will host the Japanese imperial couple on a state visit to Great Britain in June.

Charles and Camilla thank you for the “good wishes”

“As the first anniversary of the Coronation approaches, Their Majesties remain deeply grateful for the many kindnesses and good wishes they have received from around the world during the joys and challenges of the past year,” the statement said. At the same time, the palace released a new photo of Charles and Camilla, taken in the gardens of Buckingham Palace in early April.

According to BBC Charles’ return to the public is a “message of cautious optimism.” His cancer treatment is still ongoing and it is too early to say how long it will continue. However, the doctors are “very encouraged by the progress made so far and are positive about the king’s continued recovery,” the British broadcaster quoted a spokesman as saying. The medical team is “so satisfied that the King is now able to resume a number of public duties.”

The British monarch’s cancer was made public on February 5, 2024. It is not known what cancer it is.
