BEIJING (Reuters) – The Universal Resort amusement park in Beijing closed on Wednesday due to coronavirus prevention measures and the cities of Wuhan and Guangzhou closed some areas, as the number of contaminations increases in China despite its “zero Covid” policy.

The park did not say when it will reopen but said it would refund or reschedule tickets.

“We will continue to assess the impact on operations and strive to resume operations as soon as possible,” Universal Beijing Resort said on social media Weibo.

The park is 30% owned by Universal Parks & Resorts, a subsidiary of Comcast Corp and 70% by the state-owned Beijing Shouhuan Cultural Tourism Investment.

Beijing, where entry restrictions are among the toughest in China, saw infections spike after the “golden week” holiday season earlier this month.

The city reported 19 symptomatic cases and one asymptomatic infection as of Oct. 25, while nationwide 1,407 new cases were reported, the highest number in 12 days.

Wuhan, where the coronavirus first emerged nearly three years ago, shut down its Hanyang district after a spike in cases.

The city of Guangzhou, which reported 27 new local symptomatic coronavirus cases and 46 asymptomatic cases on Tuesday, listed five other of its districts as the most at risk: Huangpu, Nansha, Panyu, Yuexiu and Conghua.

China’s economic growth slowed in the fourth quarter as measures taken to stem the spread of the coronavirus curtailed travel and shipping, which restricted consumption and trade in the world’s second-largest economy.
