Accused of seven rapes and a sexual assault, the 2018 world champion defender faces a new charge, according to The world. A complaint, for attempted rape, has been filed against him by a sixth woman who accuses him of facts which allegedly took place in July 2021according to Le Parisien. “Mute”, “impassive face”, according to the daily, Benjamin Mendy did not react during his appearance in court. The date of his trial has also been announced: it will begin on July 25 and is expected to last six weeks.

Before that, the former player of AS Monaco and Olympique de Marseille will have to appear before the court again, on March 11, to attend a procedural hearing. “I am aware that the plaintiffs have already suffered from a significant delay (in the course of the procedure), explained the judge. Mr. Mendy’s career is on hold. Everyone must understand that Mr. Mendy cannot ply his trade. This case must be tried.” After four months spent in pre-trial detention, Benjamin Mendy has been on bail since January 8. Since then, he remains subject to strict judicial control. including wearing an electronic bracelet and having to respect a curfew.

Benjamin Mendy: what will the footballer plead?

Benjamin Mendy also has no possibility of using his passport or of contacting the complainants. In total, he is charged with nine counts of prosecution concerning six complainants, for acts that were allegedly committed between the end of 2020 and August 2021. Benjamin Mendy will be tried alongside Louis Saha Matturie, also under judicial supervision, is being prosecuted for seven rapes and three sexual assaults on seven women. For the moment, it is not known whether the footballer has pleaded guilty or not guilty to the facts of which he is accused. Since the beginning of this affair, his club Manchester City has suspended him. And Benjamin Mendy never spoke.
