BERLIN (Reuters) – Germany will make a first delivery of 15 Gepard tanks to Ukraine in July, a spokesman for the German Defense Ministry said on Friday, confirming a press report.

German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht agreed during an exchange with her Ukrainian counterpart, Oleksii Reznikov, via video link, he added.

At the end of April, Germany announced that it would supply Kyiv with heavy weapons for the first time, namely Gepard anti-aircraft tanks. She has since also pledged seven self-propelled howitzers to Kyiv and started training Ukrainian troops in these weapons.

According to a government source, the Gepard tanks will be supplied with “sufficient” ammunition.

The source said there was enough ammo for nearly 100 combat loads, with 25 targets per load.
