The Bermuda shorts are back! Awesome or sheer horror? Our editors Hannah and Friederike do not agree on this trend either…

Fashion trends are like celery. Some just can’t get enough of it and others…well, others want to choke just looking at it. But you know what? That’s totally okay. After all, tastes differ. Even our editors sometimes disagree. Because it looks like Bermuda will be back again in 2021. curse or blessing? That’s what Hannah and Friederike think of it.

Friederike: My baby belongs in the hereafter

I love shorts and I love shorts. But Bermuda shorts are probably the only type of pants I just can’t stand. To be perfectly honest, there is only one possible scenario where I would ever wear Bermuda shorts. And it looks like this: “It was the summer of ’63, everyone called me Baby and I kind of liked it.” Yes, you read that right. When in my dreams I’m carrying a watermelon next to Patrick Swayze. Then, but ONLY THEN, I would let myself be persuaded to put on Bermuda shorts.

When I see the knee-length jeans, I just have to think of “Dirty Dancing” immediately. The parts were probably cool back then. Combined correctly, the Bermuda shorts can certainly also look cool. But so far I haven’t seen anyone do it. In short: I prefer to stick with skirts or paperbag shorts. Because these babies belong to me.

Hannah: “Heee was a boy – she was a girl!”

I had banned Bermuda shorts from my closet for a long time. And I don’t want to lie: Even today, I can’t get used to the classic fabric Bermuda. Luckily, knee-length pants got a trend update last summer and have been part of my summer wardrobe ever since. My favorite is the leather look version. The medium length and the slightly wider cut make the pants look super casual and me too (well, at least I think so when I’m walking through the streets). The denim version with frayed hems makes me feel a little bit like the skater girl I used to want to be. Avril would be proud of me! But no fear! So that my look still remains serious and grown-up and 15-year-old Hannah, who doted on boys in skate parks, doesn’t get the upper hand, I also like to combine her with higher heeled sandals. So I can even wear the pants to the office … then just with a laptop and no skateboard. Too bad actually!
