One of the pillars of the famous BBC series “Doctor Who” has died: Bernard Cribbins, who played Wilfried Mott, died at the age of 93.
He already had a very long career behind him, and had rubbed shoulders with the greatest: the British actor Bernard Cribbins has died aged 93revealed Variety this July 28, 2022. For sixty years, he had played in about twenty television series as well as in about thirty films. His playmates in “Doctor Who” mourn him today.

“Bowler hat and leather boots”, “Star Turn” or even “Jackanory”, so many successful series in Great Britain as well as in Europe had counted Bernard Cribbins in their ranks. But it was in the 2000s that he really burst onto the screen, in the 4th season of the cult series “Doctor Who”, longest running sci-fi series on television of all time. For three years, from 2007 to 2010, he played the role of Wilfried Mottgiving the reply to the time traveler of the time, David Tennant, who paid him a vibrant tribute on his Instagram account.
But the most beautiful tribute is the one that was paid to him by Russel T Davies, the showrunner of Doctor Who, at the time when Bernard Cribbins appeared in the series.“I love this man. I love him”, he wrote on Instagram, “He knew everyone! He was talking about the Beatles and David Niven (…) He loved being on ‘Doctor Who’. He was like, ‘The kids call me grandpa on the street!’ (…) What an actor! Oh, really, what a wonderful actor!”Recalling filming anecdotes and the memories he had in common with the actor, Russel T Davies truly touched the hearts of fans. The series team also paid tribute to the actor, who was also officer of the order of the British Empireand played with Sir Alfred Hitchcockin Frenzy in 1972 and in James Bond, Casino Royale, as a taxi driver. A big name in British cinema has therefore left to travel back in time, in turn.
