In his latest book published by Grasset, Loneliness of Israelthe philosopher denounces the isolation of the country after October 7.
The United States has presented a draft resolution to members of the UN Security Council calling for an “immediate ceasefire related to the release of hostages” in Gaza, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Wednesday to a Saudi media outlet. Washington, Israel’s main ally, had until then vetoed several resolutions. But faced with the human toll which continues to rise daily in the Gaza Strip and the risk of famine according to the UN in the besieged Palestinian territory, the United States is redoubling its efforts to achieve a truce.
“There are two ceasefires”
For Bernard-Henri Lévy, Joe Biden “is in an electoral period”, which justifies his desire to move towards a ceasefire. “It is contested by its base, continues the philosopher. Bernard-Henri Lévy says he is in favor of a “ceasefire to free the hostages” and for “Hamas to let humanitarian aid through”.
However, he warns of the risks of a ceasefire which could “leave Hamas in power, to let it maintain its hold on the Palestinians in Gaza, to let it extend its influence in the West Bank”. BHL assures that Israel is today leading a war of liberation of the Palestinians but also of “self-defense”.
