Best racing movie? Brad Pitt will really drive an F2 for the director of Top Gun Maverick

Brad Pitt will be driving an F2 car designed by Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes Formula 1 team for the shooting of Joseph Kosinski’s next feature film (Top Gun: Maverick), which promises to be the best film of race never made.

For his next project, Brad Pitt will pick up speed. Lots of speed. He will indeed play a racing driver who comes out of retirement to mentor a young driver in the hope of finding glory again in a film dedicated to Formula 1.

Scheduled for Apple TV+, this still untitled feature film is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer (Top Gun, Pearl Harbor, Pirate of the Caribbean) and will be directed by Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick). And like Tom Cruise, the Hollywood face of action movies adept at impressive stunts on vehicles of all kinds, Brad Pitt will give of his person on the tracks.

Specialized media have revealed that Brad Pitt will himself drive a single-seater designed by Mercedes, and already in the test phase, for a sort of unofficial 11th team, which will be in place among the professionals, in particular during the Grand Prix de Grande- Bretagne, which will be held on the weekend of July 7 to 9, 2023.

Even if Brad Pitt’s “pilot future” on this film is already causing some reactions on social networks, it is important to specify that the actor will drive an F2 and not an F1, as the site explains. The Race.

You need a Super License issued by the International Automobile Federation to be able to compete in a Formula 1 world championship. Moreover, Brad Pitt will drive on the track during the event at Silverstone but when the circuit is empty between the sessions, with no other car present.

But the film crew will be able to shoot the rest at the heart of the automotive event and have even planned to film the rest of the F1 season. That’s not all since Jerry Bruckheimer and Joseph Kosinski also announced on the sidelines of the event F1 Accelerate Summit that the feature film was going to be revolutionary in technical terms.

Best racing movie ever made?

For more realism, Joseph Kosinski will use the skills acquired on the set of Top Gun: Maverick. His team thus used the technology established inside the cockpits of fighter planes on the action film with Tom Cruise, which made it possible to develop, after 18 months of work, what has been described as “the smallest mobile 6K camera ever”.

This will allow the director to capture images close to the driver and closer to reality from inside the cockpit of a racing car, an F2 in the case of Brad Pitt, whose speed can exceed 300 km/ h.

The pilot Lewis Hamilton was chosen as a consultant on this film and he also officiates as a producer. It allows Joseph Kosinski and his co-screenwriter Ehren Kruger to have a coherent script and to write the story of a Formula 1 driver as accurately as possible.

There is no doubt that his advice will be invaluable for Brad Pitt. But the F1 star is already confident about this project: “I have so much hope for him. I know we’re going to make the best racing movie ever, both visually, and we’re going to work to make sure we touch the hearts of all the fans.”

And, icing on the cake, reporter Will Buxton who presented the panel at the F1 Accelerate Summit revealed that Tom Cruise had already contacted Joseph Kosinski and Jerry Bruckheimer to offer his help if they needed an additional driver!
