Best VPN for Disney +: This is how you see the US streaming service in Germany!

VPN

In Germany you can easily subscribe to Disney+. However, a lot of content is missing in the German offshoot. In this article, we will tell you how you can access the US version of Disney+ in Germany.

The best VPN for Disney+

Since the start in March 2020, you can also easily access Disney Plus in this country. Many series and films from the streaming service are already available to you today. However, you have to do without some highlights, which you can only find in the US version of the streaming service. This is due to licenses that Disney has previously granted to other broadcasters or streaming services.

The situation is similar with series that appear weekly in Germany, but are often published as a whole season in the USA right from the start. If you want to access this US content from Disney +, there is no way around a VPN. We will show you step by step how you can access the US version of Disney + from Germany with a VPN.

In recent years, streaming services have increasingly opposed the use of VPNs. Even Disney+ doesn’t make it easy to break regional restrictions, but it’s possible.

Another hurdle is the payment option. Disney+ requires a US PayPal account or US credit card. If you have these, you can use them. Alternatively, you can use a small detour and get to your destination.

Unfortunately, the technology behind Disney+ is extremely good at distinguishing between your real location and a location faked by a VPN. As a result, many VPN services struggle to connect to Disney+. However, some VPN providers are up to the challenge.

ExpressVPN often established a stable connection to the Dutch Disney Plus site in our test, but then gave up the ghost for a long time. NordVPN and CyberGhost, on the other hand, proved to be reliable VPNs for connecting to US Disney+. So you have to be lucky here, but it is possible to show the streaming service a wrong location. But you haven’t reached your goal yet.

Tip! In our guide to streaming with VPN, we go into detail about the most important key points that you should consider when choosing a VPN.

Disney+: Payment only via detours

If you want to sign up for Disney+, the site asks for a payment method from you. Payment by credit card and PayPal is possible, but this is where the path towards Disney+ will end for most German users, because German credit cards and German PayPal accounts are not accepted.

An American PayPal account would be needed, but this requires the user to have a residential address in the relevant country. Germans who have a corresponding address can easily set up a new PayPal account, because a German credit card works here. This means they have a valid payment method for Disney Plus.

There is a promising payment alternative for Android and iOS users. Let’s start with Apple: With a US iTunes account, you can download the Disney Plus app from the App Store and pay there with your iTunes credit. You fill this up with an American iTunes gift card, which you can buy on eBay, for example. German voucher cards will not help you.

A cumbersome, but ultimately effective way to receive Disney + in Germany. Of course, you still need to use a VPN service, otherwise you won’t be able to use your paid Disney Plus account.

Android users download an APK file from Disney+ from the Internet, since downloading directly from the Google Play Store is not yet possible in this country. A Google search should get you there, but note that some sites may try to foist malicious programs on you. Now use your VPN again and start the Disney Plus app. Here you have the option of paying for your subscription with Google Pay, an American payment method is not necessary. But they charge you 7.49 euros per month, although Disney+ will cost 6.99 euros in Germany. For the time being, you are of course also entitled to 7 free days here.

In principle, VPNs are legal. However, streaming services must set up and enforce geographic restrictions – including Disney +. This is due to the licenses for movies and series and it is also the reason why most streaming services prohibit the use of a VPN.

In the Disney + terms and conditions it says in point 3:

Your Use of Disney+ Content. Your contractual right of use does not entitle you to the following actions:

circumvent or disable any content protection system or digital rights management technology used on the Disney+ Service to control access to the Disney+ Content;

Disney+ T&Cs – §3 Use Rights and Restrictions

Of course, you don’t use malicious software with a VPN, but you bypass the geo-blockade that Disney+ uses for content protection. You will not end up in court for this, but Disney + can block your account.
