Beta 3 of Android 14 is coming to an end: last straight line before the final version

The months go by and the betas of Android 14 follow one another. This June 8 sees the arrival of the third, which thus marks the transition to what Google calls the “platform stability”. There are therefore only two or three months before the final availability of the new version of the OS.

The entry into the platform stability means that developer APIs, as well as app behaviors, are now final before the deployment of Android 14 in its stable version. So developers only have the month of July to refine the new features to be integrated into their applications, if we are to believe the chronology announced by Google.

The arrival of this beta number 3 brings small changes to the OS of the Mountain View firm. The main one brings the increase in the size of the font, which can go up to 200% to better adapt to users with sight problems. Access to media contained in the smartphone can be partially granted to apps. A solution to avoid giving full and/or permanent access to photos and videos stored on the device.

The deployment of Android Beta 3 also adds a smartphone to the list of devices eligible for beta installation. The Google Pixel 7a, available since May 2023, can now take advantage of Android 14 in preview. It therefore joins the Pixel 4a, Pixel 5, Pixel 6/6 Pro and Pixel 7/7 Pro.

The release of Android 14 in its stable version will probably take place at the start of the school year or just when the Pixel 8 is announced. This new version of Google’s operating system should be first on the company’s smartphones, before each manufacturer embarks on the race for updates. It has also become one of the workhorses of manufacturers, who now manage to announce, like Samsung, four years of software monitoring on a large part of its smartphones.
