Are you a fan of horror films and thought you’d seen it all? This is In a Violent Nature, a horror film shot from the killer’s point of view.
In the new trailer, the viewer follows a masked man who makes his (bloody) path through a remote forest and kills as he encounters him.
An extraordinary film
Directed by Chris Nash, the feature film was presented at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival and is due to be released in American theaters on May 1. Described as “a cleverly executed riff on the slasher genre that’s sure to be one of the most notable horror releases of the year“, In A Violent Nature has another particularity: it does not have an original soundtrack.
The filmmaker explained this choice during the presentation of his film: “We don’t want to have a soundtrack, we don’t want a score. We just want to let the forest be itself and let that tone transport the audience.”.
Is the press excited?
Against all expectations, the first press feedback on this film is quite laudatory! In a Violent Nature has an average rating of 93% on the specialized American site Rotten Tomatoes for 28 reviews.
IFC Films
Alex Papaioannou from the site InSession Film writing : “Although it is deeply and clearly indebted to the slashers that came before it, “In a Violent Nature” is unlike any other slasher.” For Meagan Navarro from the specialized site Bloody Disgusting It is “A fascinating arthouse horror project that plays more like a minimalist slice-of-life feature with a dark and bloody twist.”
Fred Topel of United Press International compares the film to Friday the 13th but with more gore: “Johnny kills the campers one by one with methods similar to those in the “Friday the 13th” films, but without MPA censors restricting the gore. Some of the murders go much further than Jason’s.”

Michael CamabroIGN regrets for his part that the story and the characters are not more in-depth: “While it is lacking in terms of story and character development, none of it significantly detracts from the overall experience. If you’re here to see blood, Johnny and his hooks really paint the forest red.“
For John Fink of The Film Stage on the other hand, In a Violent Nature does not add much to the genre: “No matter the ambition, “In a Violent Nature” fails to improve on the slasher formula, even if its more contemplative tone amplifies the gore in certain scenes by not shying away from showing it.
