Better than Tesla – Connected cars: Volkswagen beats them all!

Volkswagen is the world leader in connecting its vehicles. In the recently published “Connected Car Innovation” ranking of the Center of Automotive Management (CAM) in Bergisch Gladbach, Germany, the Wolfsburg-based group of Mercedes-Benz and Tesla ends up. BMW is losing ground.

Among other things, VW was able to score points with the bidirectional charging of the ID.3 and the digital twin chassis of the Porsche Taycan – the virtual simulation of the air suspension of the chassis enables safety-critical functions to be checked remotely. Overall, the group collected 90 index points, putting it well ahead of the southern German competition (64 points) and US competitor Tesla (54 points).BMW is losing groundThe loser of the year in the CAM study is BMW. The Munich team only had a few world firsts to present in 2021 and fell from third place last year to eleventh place. Between the Bavarians and the top there are three Chinese manufacturers: SAIC (6th place), Great Wall (9th) and Geely (10th), as well as Ford, GM, Toyota and Hyundai. Germany is in the country ranking with a share of 29.8 percent the connected car innovations of the year just ahead of China with 25 percent. Both nations are getting closer and closer, Germany coming from above and China from below. The USA is also on the upswing with 23.8 percent. For the study, the experts led by institute director Stefan Bratzel considered and evaluated 336 innovations and services from 28 global automobile manufacturer groups. (SPX)
