Between Tottenham, EM and RB
Timo Werner loves everything – but can he stay?

Things are not going well for Timo Werner at RB Leipzig, he is loaned out to the Premier League. And apparently finds happiness there. The striker “loves” the team, the style, the stadium. And the coach also has words of praise for the national player, who is still hoping for the European Championship at home.

Timo Werner can definitely imagine staying at Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. “I really enjoy it. Playing with the team, with this style, this stadium. I love it here,” said the international soccer player to the English TV channel Sky Sports. Werner is on loan from RB Leipzig to the London club until the end of the season. The Spurs can buy the 28-year-old via option for 17 million euros. No decision has been made on this yet.

Werner has appeared eleven times for Tottenham in the Premier League so far, recording two goals and three assists. Spurs are in fourth place in the strongest league in the world and have a very good chance of qualifying for the Champions League. Coach Ange Postecoglou had recently been very impressed with the German and last week described Werner as a “great new signing”. What will happen next for the striker in the new season will be decided “in due course”.

According to Postecoglou, Werner is “an important part of our team”. He could “certainly improve further if he understands our game better,” said the Australian, “even though he would of course have liked to score a few more goals.” Werner went on loan to north London in January to get more playing time. In Leipzig, the Swabian was only the number five striker.

Werner wants to recommend himself to the Spurs for the home European Championship starting in mid-June. However, he was not in the squad for the recent international matches against France and the Netherlands. Because national coach Julian Nagelsmann was very satisfied with his team’s performances, he set high hurdles for the non-nominees to return to the DFB team.
