Open a web page on Google and type in “grey card”. Normally, the first result should be the public service website or that ofNational Agency for Secured Titles (ANTS). But if you go down a little lower, you will see a myriad of links promising to send you your gray card as soon as possible. On closer inspection, they all offer paid services. This is also the case for one of them, bureau-carte-grise.frwhich at first glance inspires confidence.

A button “Identify with FranceConnect” at the top right, blue color reminiscent of government sites… Nothing suspicious. Except that the site is 100% private. Created in 2018, it only offersaccompaniment in your steps concerning the gray card. A bit like giving all the documents in the file to someone who will make the final request for you. Of course, everything is paid. A change of address will cost you for example €39.50. The problem is that the same operation is free on the ANTS website.

A site charges for free services relating to the gray card, the authorities launch a procedure

In addition to charging for its services, the “Bureau des cartes grises” is not particularly efficient. Several Internet users say they had a hard time seeing their file succeed, despite the payment of the service. The majority cries scam, which the site defends in response. It refers to its FAQ stating that you can carry out the operations offered free of charge by going through the ANTS. Indeed it is written, but it is necessary all the same to seek well.

The site is now under the blow of a double procedure of the authorities details of which have not been disclosed. Shortly before the summer, the owning company received a fine of €130,000 from the fraud prevention services of Haute-Garonne. The challenge to the verdict was dismissed in July. We do not know the reasons for the sanction, except for a “significant volume of complaints” and “several breaches of consumer law”. Maybe make the digital gray card as the vital card on smartphone would curb this type of practice.
