The 29-year-old is said to have committed the burglaries from May 2018 – all within a few kilometers of the communities of Knittelfeld and Spielberg. He broke padlocks and got into basement compartments. He went to the crime scenes on foot and often drove home with the 20 or so stolen bicycles. Arrested in the act. Comprehensive investigations and securing of evidence at various crime scenes finally led the Murtal criminalists to a 29-year-old Romanian. Police officers arrested him red-handed during a burglary at the end of December. However, the man only confessed to a small number of burglaries. However, further investigations and DNA analysis made it possible to assign at least 31 burglaries to the 29-year-old. The suspect may have committed it alone. He first stored the stolen items in his basement compartment, then he sold them on to improve his livelihood. Investigators only found some of the stolen bicycles in his basement. The Romanian is now in prison in Leoben.
