Bundeswehr says goodbye to AKK with a western song
After the big tattoo for Angela Merkel, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer is now receiving this honor. She headed the Ministry of Defense for almost two and a half years. The ceremony in Berlin’s Bendler Block ends with an emotional gesture by the CDU politician and lots of music.
The Bundeswehr said goodbye to former Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer with a big tattoo. Successor Christine Lambrecht of the SPD also took part in the ceremony in the Bendlerblock in Berlin. Foreign minister and Green leader Annalena Baerbock and Justice Minister Marco Buschmann from the FDP were also there from the new cabinet.
The great tattoo is the highest honor given by the armed forces. Most recently, the Bundeswehr said goodbye to the outgoing Chancellor Angela Merkel. The CDU politician Kramp-Karrenbauer was allowed to choose three pieces of music that the staff music corps of the Bundeswehr played for her. The Saarland native decided on the signature tune of the Bundeswehr “Wir. Dien. Germany.”, For the title music of the western classic “Die glorreichen Sieben” and for “Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher And Higher” by Jackie Wilson. In the end she said goodbye with a kiss.
Later, Kramp-Karrenbauer wrote on Twitter: “Thank you for a moving tattoo and an unforgettable time”. Kramp-Karrenbauer had headed the ministry since July 2019. During her term of office, the end of the Afghanistan mission last summer. She was re-elected to the Bundestag in September, but renounced her mandate to make room for younger people.
