Former US President Bill Clinton (75) will spend another night in the hospital. According to media reports, he is being treated there for sepsis. “All values are moving in the right direction, including the number of white blood cells, which has fallen significantly,” said Clinton’s spokesman Angel Urena on Friday (local time). The ex-president continues to receive antibiotics.
The former US president was rushed to the clinic in Irvine, California on Tuesday because of an infection. According to a CNN report, a urinary tract infection has spread to Clinton’s bloodstream. The ex-president complained of fatigue during a visit to California and then went to the hospital for tests.
Biden says Clinton is fine
Photos in the local media showed how Clinton’s wife, former US Secretary of State and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, 73, drove to the hospital for a visit. US President Joe Biden (78) told journalists that he had spoken to Clinton. “God willing, he seems to be doing well.”
Clinton was US President from 1993 to 2001. In 1998, impeachment proceedings were initiated against him for attempting to cover up his affair with intern Monica Lewinsky. However, the Senate voted against impeachment in February 1999. In 2001, Clinton was replaced in office by George W. Bush.
Clinton operated on several times
The Democrat has suffered from health problems more often in the past. In 2004, at the age of 58, he underwent quadruple bypass surgery after doctors diagnosed heart disease. Since then, Clinton, who is said to have a penchant for fatty foods, has been vegan. In 2010 he had a stent inserted. (AFP)
