The singer Billie Eilish (22) sees herself as part of the LGBTQ+ community. Somehow this has always been clear to all observers, but the pop star himself has never said it out loud. Until the recent “Variety” cover story, in which she spoke more openly about her inclinations for the first time, but without being very specific. “I never had the feeling that I could empathize with girls,” says Eilish literally. “I love them so much. I love them as people. I’m attracted to them as people. I’m really attracted to them,” she said.

Additionally, she said, “I have deep connections with women in my life, the family in my life.” She feels “physically attracted to them,” but she is also intimidated by their “presence and their beauty.” She now fleshed out these somewhat vague statements in another conversation with “Variety.” and made it clear that she was completely unaware that the public did not yet know her position on this issue.

She didn’t want to come out with her statements, but: “Wasn’t it obvious? I didn’t realize that people didn’t know that.” She’s been thinking in this direction for a long time, but just hasn’t talked about it yet. The singer read the article herself and thought to herself: “Oh, I think I came out today.” That’s exciting for her and also “cool” that people know that now.

Billie Eilish: “I will never feel feminine”

Eilish also spoke to Variety about her gender identity and said that she doesn’t really think much about it. It may be because she has never felt wanted or desired. That’s why she doesn’t care about her sexuality. “I’ve never felt like a woman, to be honest. I’ll never feel feminine,” says Eilish. Although she already identifies as “she/her,” she has never really felt like a girl.

So far, Eilish’s only relationships with men are publicly known. She dated, among others, the rapper Brandon Adams (26) and the singer Jesse James Rutherford (32). To this day, romances with women have not found their way into the public eye.
