The break is brutal. In a letter written to the Mormon Church announcing his departure, American billionaire Jeff Green explains: “While most of the members are good people trying to do good, I believe the Church is actively and presently doing evil in the world.”
According to this letter reported on Monday by The Salt Lake Tribune, she “Hindered global progress on women’s rights, civil rights and racial equality, and LGBTQI + rights”.
A friend and several family members of the 44-year-old, who runs an advertising technology company and is considered one of Utah’s wealthiest people, have also left the Mormon church. Jeff Green demanded that she erase all of her data and no longer have any proof of her being there, except for her resignation letter.
In addition to his lack of openness on human rights, the ex-Mormon in his letter criticizes the mode of financing of the church, which would hold 48 billion dollars of actions financed by the contributions of its members. “This money comes from people, often poor, who believe wholeheartedly that you represent the will of Jesus. They give, hoping for blessings from heaven.”, he writes.
In November, the man who is believed to weigh $ 5.2 billion pledged to give more than 90% of his fortune before or upon his death. So this week, he announced to donate $ 600,000 to Equality Utah, which defends the rights of LGBTQI + in this American state. Half of this amount will be allocated to a scholarship fund for students who “might need or want” to leave Brigham Young University sponsored by the Mormon Church, whose code of honor prohibits the “homosexual romantic behavior”, said Jeff Green.
