With his presentation of the new version of Bing, Microsoft impressed the tech industry and reshuffled the cards in the field of search engines. However, the Redmond firm seems to have made a decision that may disappoint many.

The version of Bing that integrates the technology on which ChatGPT is based is, in fact, not available on Google Chrome. A very similarly deliberate practice by the company to further overshadow Google.

Bing with AI is Edge-only

With Bing powered by artificial intelligence, Microsoft is directly competing with Google in its chosen field. Moreover, the Mountain View firm organized a conference in an emergency to present, too, a conversational AI called Bard which will be integrated into Google Search. Only, the presentation of Google makes a much less good impression than that of Microsoft, and it would seem that this new war in the search engine sector also extends to that of Internet browsers.

Tom Warren, Microsoft journalist at the media The Verge, indeed tried to use the new version of Bing on Google Chrome. The platform then indicates that the “ cat mode can only be accessed by going to Microsoft Edge.

Vehemence that does not date from yesterday between Google and Microsoft

As of now, Bing is not yet widely deployed, so the fact that it is not available on Chrome is not certain to last. However, this would not be surprising given the very turbulent history between Google and Microsoft.

For example, the Mountain View company did not hesitate to block its applications like Gmail and YouTube on Windows Phone, Microsoft’s mobile operating system which has since been thrown into oblivion, and which competed with Android. It’s unclear whether Bard’s integration with Google Search will be exclusive to Chrome, but given Microsoft’s decision, it’s highly likely Edge won’t benefit. We will have to see what it is for other browsers like Brave, Safari or Firefox.

Also note that Microsoft Edge will embed ChatGPT in its sidebar, in addition to Bing. For its part, Google has not mentioned the possibility of seeing Chrome integrate an artificial intelligence.
