Biologists and Social Security reach an agreement after a three-month standoff

The medical analysis laboratories and the Social Security reached a savings agreement on Tuesday January 10, ending three months of negotiations and pressure punctuated by strike movements. The compromise provides for a reduction in funding of 250 million euros distributed over all medical biology examinations.

A new negotiation, for the period 2024-2026, must also be concluded before 1er September, reported Medicare and the Syndicate of Biologists. The latter therefore called for an end to the closure of laboratories and the blocking of test results for SARS-CoV-2 on Wednesday.

The two parties finally found a compromise between the savings demanded since September by the government, which pointed to the high profits of the laboratories, and the sector which refused a lasting puncture.

Medicare welcomed in a press release this “agreement signed with all the representatives of biologists”. The four unions representing this liberal profession have indeed initialed this amendment to their agreement.

After several calls for the non-transmission of the results of coronavirus screening tests and the closure of laboratories, Social Security considers that “this return to the spirit of responsibility (…) must allow the immediate restoration of epidemiological vigilance and access to care for patients”. This wish will be quickly granted: the president of the Syndicate of biologists, François Blanchecotte, confirmed to Agence France-Presse that all the actions in progress would be lifted. ” tomorrow “ Wednesday at midnight.
