Same story, different location: Netflix releases a teaser for “Bird Box: Barcelona”, the Spanish offshoot of the horror hit.

Deserted streets, a blindfolded dog and a wrecked cruise ship off the coast: Netflix has a new one teasers released for “Bird Box: Barcelona”. The Spanish offshoot of the horror hit with Sandra Bullock (58) will start on July 14, 2023 on the streaming service.

“Wear blindfolds. Cover your eyes at all costs and avoid visual contact with these creatures,” says the almost two-minute clip. So the premise does not differ from the original from 2018. Here and there mysterious creatures are up to mischief. Anyone who looks at them will be driven to suicide.

Instead of rural California, where “Bird Box” mostly takes place, this time the Spanish metropolis Barcelona is the scene. A group around Sebastián (Mario Casas, 36) and his daughter Sophia (the German child actress Naila Schuberth) fight their way through the post-apocalyptic metropolis.

Directing duo from Barcelona stages the spin-off

“Bird Box: Barcelona” is directed by brothers Alex (42) and David Pastor (44). Both were born in Barcelona. Behind them are the producers who were already responsible for the film with Sandra Bullock.

Despite mixed reviews, “Bird Box” sparked hype in 2018. On social media, many people ran challenges where they performed various actions while blindfolded. There were also injuries.
