BKW today announced various locations where solar power plants are to be built.
In the Alps, one power plant is being built in Adelboden, two around Meiringen and two around Grindelwald.
A project with MontSol around Saint-Imier is also to be implemented in the Jura.
The power plants will one day supply around 21,000 four-person households with electricity.
21,000 households need around 100 gigawatt hours of electricity per year. Around half of this, around 45 gigawatt hours, occurs in the winter half of the year.
It is not yet set in stone that electricity will be produced at all four locations. BKW Managing Director Robert Itschner says: “There are external conditions that we cannot influence. This includes the acceptance of the projects in the communities and the duration of the approval process for network reinforcements.”
Another success factor for alpine solar projects is that they can be connected to the distribution network. This must be able to withstand a corresponding load. Grid expansion is therefore just as important as implementing photovoltaic projects.
