Blanca on M6: is the interpreter of the main character really blind?

In the Italian detective series “Blanca”, broadcast from tonight on M6, the main character is played by Maria Chiara Giannetta. Is the actress blind like her character?

M6 is broadcasting this Saturday evening the first two episodes of Blanca, an Italian detective series which tells us the story of Blanca, a young woman who lost her sight in a tragic accident, whose only dream is to join the police as a consultant. in order to put his overdeveloped senses at the service of law enforcement. She then becomes an intern and lends a hand to Inspector Michele Liguori (Giuseppe Zeno) to help him with his investigations.

To embody the character of Blanca, the production called on Maria Chiara Giannetta, a young Italian actress who is not partially sighted. To prepare for this particular role, however, the actress met several blind people, including singer Andrea Bocelli, who was a consultant on the series.

I met him at his house and it was quite funny to see how a blind person knows and moves in his own house”, explained Maria Chiara Giannetta during a press briefing.

I didn’t know his house and I was almost more blind than him (laughs). He is a very funny man who manages to look you in the eye and understand where you are in the room. He is also a man with a lot of presence, and he taught me how to have it.

Maria Chiara Giannetta also met 4 other people, including Olympic champions to understand her role. And all the visually impaired people she had been able to meet during her preparation were not chosen by chance since they all had the same solar character and the same irony as Blanca’s character.

The actress also tried to put herself in the shoes of a blind person to better understand Blanca. “I blindfolded myself at home to do my daily routine, like cooking, making my bed, dancing… And I discovered that time was very important. Visually impaired people do not have the same notion of time as we do. It taught me a lot.

Find season 1 of Blanca every Saturday evening on M6. The series is already available in full on Salto.
