Blind, this 97-year-old lady risks eviction from her home because of unpaid rent: Femme Actuelle Le MAG

It is a disconcerting and untold story. A blind, nearly 100-year-old woman risks losing her home over a rent payment. Indeed, the prefecture of Charente-Maritime has given its approval for the eviction of this tenant. This decision is due to non-payment of rent. Since many years, this 97-year-old woman has not settled her debts with the owner of the house in which she lives. And the sum would now be quantifiable in thousands of euros. Facts widely disputed by this elderly lady. The owner of the property then took legal action in 2020 to win his case. As reported TF1 this Wednesday, July 19, 2023, the La Rochelle court confirmed the upcoming eviction of the tenant.

An expulsion from Wednesday August 16, 2023

Following a long legal procedure carried out over three years, the court of La Rochelle and the Court of Appeal of Poitiers gave a favorable opinion to the complaint filed by the owner of the accommodation. For this reason, the 97-year-old tenant was informed of her eviction around Wednesday, August 16, 2023. The prefect also told her that she could call on the services of 115 if she needed a rehousing solution. Upon learning of this decision, Me François Drageon, the elderly person’s lawyer, was indignant and asked his colleagues located throughout metropolitan France to to mobilize against this judgement. According to him, there would be about twenty lawyers ready to accompany him in this process: “She is a refugee from Francoism. She arrived in France 80 years ago, has occupied this house in La Rochelle for 60 years and we are going to expel her with no other solution than to call 115. It is a condemnation to death”, he denounced.
