Blockchain Hackathon 3.0: This year’s event focuses primarily on the phenomenon of coopetition and decentralized platform economies.
The Stuttgart Blockchain hackathon will take place again this year. For the third time, developers, entrepreneurs and blockchain enthusiasts of all kinds will meet from November 12th to 15th to work on innovative solutions for selected challenges. The winning solutions can look forward to prizes totaling 10,000 euros.
The blockchain event provides a digital lab in which the first prototypes can be built and tested during the three days. These are to be used specifically in the Industry, Finance and Mobility categories. Ultimately, the participants can present their ideas to a jury of experts in order to receive direct feedback on their work. The heart of the hackathon is conquering uncertain terrain in which there are no or only a few blockchain-based applications.
Coopetition: When competitors become partners
The event takes place under the motto “In the name of Coopetition: Shaping the future of the decentralized platform economies”. The concept of coopetition (in German: Koopetition; cooperation competition) describes the necessity of cooperation between competitors in order to adapt the traditional value creation process to the new realities of our economy. The digital transformation makes it increasingly difficult to offer a competitive product and service offer from companies: It is always faster, better and more comprehensive.
The coopetition thesis suggests improving market conditions for all participants through cooperation with competitors. The long-established elbow society should give way to optimization through cooperation. Decentralized platforms offer the possibility of providing a modern ecosystem in which individual providers coexist as partners and competitors. In practice, a strategic partnership on the infrastructure level would be conceivable in order to then be able to offer competitive applications on the product level.
A centralized infrastructure is governed by the monopolies of the digital economy. Amazon and Meta (recently Facebook) are examples of players who currently dominate the infrastructure in the digital sector. Now the question that the Stuttgart Blockchain Hackathon would like to answer this year arises: What possibilities arise from blockchain-based networks as a counter-model to digital monopolies?

The start of the event will take place today with a blockchain meetup between 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. The specific Hackathon Challenges will be announced. In addition, the meetup offers a space for content-related discussions and questions on the subject of coopetition, digital ecosystems and the development of decentralized platforms.
