Like all other car manufacturers, BMW is hit hard by the shortage of electronic components. Also, the German giant has taken the decision to change suppliers, particularly with regard to the chips that drive the dashboard of its vehicles and the infotainment system. The manufacturer notably uses a new chip, which however suffers from a certain defect.
Indeed, the latter does not fully support the manufacturer’s OS, and does not allow access to certain functionalities such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto or even Wi-Fi. BMW has nevertheless taken the decision to deliver the vehicles to its customers, therefore deprived of these options which are essential for many drivers today.
” Rather than delaying the production and delivery of these cars until the end of development regarding the software update, we decided to deliver their cars to customers. “Explains Phil Dilanni, spokesperson for BMW. Obviously, affected customers have been notified in advance by BMW that they will be able to download the valuable update by the end of June. at the latest “.
An update will fix the problem.
Indeed, this situation is temporary, explains the German giant, which therefore preferred to deliver its customers, rather than storing hundreds of vehicles in its car parks, even if it means delivering “incomplete” models. In a few weeks, an OTA update will allow the vehicles in question to finally benefit from the long-awaited options, without the need to bring the car back to the dealership.
BMW did not specify the models concerned, except that they were developed during this first quarter of 2022, and that they are intended for the United States, the United Kingdom, the Italy, Spain and France. However, we know that all vehicles whose production code mentions “6P1” will be delivered without the options in question.
