BMW on course: e-cars are becoming a figurehead


In contrast to many other car manufacturers, BMW is reluctant to switch to electric drive. But the Bavarians are also showing that the time for e-cars has come. The electric models become a success for BMW. And that has its reasons.

Electric cars as a success model: BMW doubles Stromer sales

So far, BMW has treated the subject of electric cars rather neglected, at least in comparison with other manufacturers. Most of the industry has already announced plans to phase out combustion engines. Not so with Bayern, who want to offer many drive technologies longer. But that E-cars popular are also evident at BMW.

As of September 2022, the BMW Group claims to have worldwide more than twice as many e-cars were sold as in the same period last year. The plus amounts to almost 115 percent, which corresponds to 128,196 electric cars. Included are the models of the brands BMW and Mini. What is particularly remarkable about the success is that BMW explicitly only counts fully electric vehicles. Plug-in hybrids are therefore not included.

While the plus for e-cars is strong, the figures for the industry as a whole are turning negative. BMW is certain that it will achieve its annual target: a sales level “slightly below the previous year”, according to the statement.

Video games in electric cars: BMW uses Tesla as a model

The e-cars from Bavaria and those from the British brand Mini are already well received by many customers. But it shouldn’t stop there. A new cooperation aims to take the e-car experience to a new level. Together with AirConsole BMW will bring gaming into the car for new vehicles:

Games can be called up via the cloud via the BMW display and integrated into the vehicle system. The smartphone serves as the controller, which, for example, should be connected to the car quickly and easily by scanning a QR code (source: BMW). The idea of ​​gambling in the car is new, but not: Tesla is already further along.

Anyone hoping for AAA games that you can play while the BMW is on the charging station will be disappointed. BMW and AirConsole touch down “Casual Gaming”, i.e. quick, short games with a simple level of difficulty. Admittedly, they can also be accommodated better during the charging stop. In the future, nDream, the company behind AirConsole, also wants to specifically develop games for gaming in the car.
