(Boursier.com) — Boeing dethrones Airbus ! For the first time since mid-2018, the American group has delivered more commercial aircraft than the Toulouse firm in a quarter. Over the first three months of the year, Boeing said yesterday that it had delivered 130 planes, or 37% more than a year ago, with the return to normal production of its best-selling 737 and the resumption shipments of Max and 787 Dreamliners already built. Boeing shipped 64 planes in March alone, nearly half of its quarterly total, including 53 from the 737 family. The day before, Airbus had announced the delivery of 127 planes in the first quarter, down 9 % compared to the previous year, penalized by the persistent difficulties in the supply chain.

Faced with the strength of demand, Guillaume Faury said last week that the aircraft manufacturer plans to increase its production in China from 4 planes per month to 6 later this year, then 8 in 2024. The company has also adapted its plant in Tianjin in order to be able to build the A321 there. Boeing, meanwhile, is adding a fourth 737 Max production line at its plant in Everett, Wash. – the first time the narrow-body aircraft has been built outside its traditional base in Renton. Over the full year, Boeing has set itself the goal of delivering at least 400 B737MAX and 70 B787, while Airbus aims to deliver 720 aircraft.

On the order side, Boeing received 60 new ones in March, but taking into account 22 cancellations, the net order book for the month fell to 38 units. Airbus’ gross orders reached 20 units in March (18 after two cancellations).
