Boil down strawberries: step by step

Boil down strawberries: the ingredients

  • 1 kg of strawberries
  • 1 liter of water
  • 300 g of sugar
  • 4 mason jars of 500 ml each

Boil down strawberries: how it works

  1. Rinse the preserving jars thoroughly with hot water, so that they are sterile. Then air dry.
  2. If you want to boil strawberries, you should only use ripe and fresh fruits that have no pressure points. Wash the strawberries in a bowl and not under running water, otherwise they can easily be damaged. Drain the fruit well and remove the stem.
  3. In the next step, fill the strawberries into the mason jars. To the edge should still about two inches of space stay.
  4. Bring the water to a boil in a saucepan and stir in the sugar so that it dissolves. The syrup let it boil briefly, then turn off the hob.
  5. Pour the sugar water into the glasses over the strawberries. Any residues from the edge wipe with a cloth and close the preserving jars tightly.
  6. Place the glasses in a large saucepan and cover three quarters with water. Bring the water to a boil and for about 30 minutes boil down the strawberries.
  7. Finally, take the pot off the stove and let everything cool down. The cooked strawberries are best left to rest overnight, then stored in a cool, dry place. In this way, they stick for at least half a year.

Boil the strawberries in the oven

Strawberries can also be boiled in the oven. Steps 1-5 remain the same. Instead of in a saucepan, you should put the mason jars in a drip pan and this fill with water about three centimeters deep. At 150 degrees you can wake up the strawberries for half an hour. Then let it cool in the oven.

Alternatively, you can also freeze strawberries or preserve them in the form of strawberry jam. With us you will find many more strawberry recipes, for example for strawberry cake or strawberry punch.
