The biggest pearls of the 2020 cinema year didn't make it to the big screen. Here are all the films that had to save themselves in 2021.

The final martini for Daniel Craig (52) as James Bond (whether shaken or stirred), the first own film for Avenger heroine "Black Widow" or the new edition of the sci-fi epic "Dune". All of them and many more films should have enchanted moviegoers around the globe this year. But as is well known, everything turned out differently. Most film studios decided to postpone their hottest film irons because of Corona, the financial losses would have been too massive.

"Tenet" by Christopher Nolan (50) dared to go to the cinema as the only true blockbuster, but the success did not really endorse the courageous step. Other productions, such as "Mulan", were even completely moved out of the cinema and to Disney's in-house streaming service. Another model is being tackled with "Wonder Woman 84" – the DC adaptation will be released in theaters this year, but will also hit the US streaming provider HBO Max, which is not yet available in this country. Here are the most important works that should have appeared in 2020 – new date sometimes still unknown.

The spy with the bad luck – and other late action

Long before the corona pandemic, "James Bond: No Time to Die" was not a lucky star. After a lot of back and forth, the final date was actually found for April 2020, but at this point the cinema, like most other industries, was already idle. As is well known, nothing came of the November date, now supposedly no time to die will be found in Germany on March 31, 2021.

As one of the first films ever, the ninth part of the PS action "Fast & Furious" was not only postponed, but moved from May 2020 to April 2021. At that time the step seemed a bit excessive, now April could come too early. Other action films that have to be patient with their cinema riot are "The King's Man" and the return of the suicidal fighter jet pilots aka "Top Gun: Maverick". The former was postponed from September 2020 to February 2021, while Tom Cruise (58) will not challenge the G-forces until July 8, 2021.

Comic heroes on stockpile

A large number of comic heroes also had to surrender to the corona pandemic. For example Scarlett Johansson (36) alias "Black Widow", who has to wait around a year longer than planned for her solo adventure. It will finally be ready in May 2021. "Eternals" should also start in this country at the beginning of November. But even the star-studded Marvel adventure had to save itself into the year 2021, in this country Angelina Jolie (45), Kit Harington (33) and Co. should save the world – or rather the universe – from November 4th.

Spider-Man's favorite enemy is also late. "Venom 2", in which Tom Hardy (43) will again embody the animal title hero from space, has meanwhile been announced for June 2021. Originally, he should have caused chaos this October. And another Spider-Man character should finally hit the screen in 2021. The tragic "vampire" called "Morbius" with Jared Leto (48) in the lead role has meanwhile been announced for next March.

Horror on hold

Fans of the creepy pace had few goose bumps in the cinema in 2020. Four promising shockers fell victim to the corona pandemic, about right at the beginning of the second part of the surprise hit "A Quiet Place". Originally planned for March 2020, John Krasinski's (41) sequel should start in Germany at the end of April. Fans of the "Candyman" series have been waiting for new horror food for a full 21 years. Another will be added, the new start date is August 2021.

This year it wasn't just the real Halloween that fell through. The second part of the reboot called "Halloween Kills" with Jamie Lee Curtis (62) has also been canceled. Because the start date is very limited here, the film should be released exactly one year later in October. Scary comedy with a lot of retro charm awaits you according to plans this coming June. Then "Ghostbusters: Legacy" will come to the cinemas with the old men.

Big stars and big monsters

2020 should be epoch-making, both in terms of content and the star line-up – or both. Denis Villeneuves (53), for example, was eagerly awaiting a new edition of the desert plan alias "Dune". The sci-fi blockbuster should have started in December; in the meantime, October 1, 2021 has been set for Germany and the rest of the world.

It is well known that Wes Anderson (51) can rally stars like no other director and was already made abundantly clear in the trailer for "The French Dispatch". If his latest film was originally supposed to open in July this year, it has been postponed for an indefinite period.

The screen fight of the century might not even come to the cinema at all. "Godzilla vs. Kong" should actually start in November, then May 2021 was proclaimed. Recently, however, there have been rumors that the film – similar to "Mulan" – could be shown directly by a streaming provider.
