A great honor for "Parasite" director Bong Joon Ho. He will serve as head of the jury at the 78th Venice International Film Festival.

The 78th Venice International Film Festival has a new head of the jury. Oscar winner Bong Joon Ho (51, "Parasite") accepted the honor "enthusiastically" and will be the first South Korean to head the famous body. The organizers announced this on their homepage.

"It is a honor"

Bong Joon Ho has been the shooting star in the international film business since his film "Parasite" was the first non-English language film to win an Oscar for best film last year. The filmmaker does not want to miss the chance to be the head of the jury in Venice: "The Venice Film Festival has a long and varied history and it is an honor to be part of this wonderful cinematic tradition," he said in one Statement.

Alberto Barbera (70), Artistic Director of the Venice Film Festival, is delighted about Bong Joon Ho's acceptance: "We are extremely grateful that he has accepted." The South Korean is one of the "most authentic and honest voices in global cinema".

With mask, distance and concept

Despite the corona pandemic, the Venice International Film Festival took place in physical form last September, unlike most other award ceremonies. This is to be repeated in 2021 – albeit still to a much smaller extent than usual. The festival is planned from September 1 to 11, 2021.
