Boris Becker: Tennis star is shocked by reactions

Boris Becker also campaigned against racism and police violence after the violent death of African American George Floyd. The tennis legend published on Twitter a short clipwho shows him at an anti-racism demonstration in London. In the video, Becker covered his mouth for protection, you can hear, among other things, how the crowd calls "Silence is Violence" ("Silence is Violence") and "Black Lives Matter".

However, Becker then obviously had to take a lot of criticism – especially from Germany. "I am shaken, shocked, frightened by the many insults only from Germany for my support for the # BlackLivesMatters demo in London yesterday," wrote the ex-athlete in another tweet. He asks: "Why, why, why ??? Have we become a country of racists …?"

"My family history"

Obviously, Becker doesn't want to let that get him down. In another tweet, he explainedthat it's also about his family. "Apparently, a lot of people in Germany still haven't understood that it's my family history!" To this end, he used the first names of his children Noah (26), Elias (20), Anna (20) and Amadeus (10) in hashtags.

"Hello everyone, I probably hit a sore spot (…) with my tweet about my family history and Black Lives Matter," he explains in another clip. Becker sees the situation as follows: "Demonstrations all over the world, the number one issue regarding racism and the brutality of the police, especially in America … only with us is that a bit swept under the carpet." Becker thinks this is "a shame. We should talk about it much more publicly. We are all one family."
