Borrowed from passers-by, a police officer follows a fugitive with an e-scooter

A Linz police officer recently used an unusual tracking method in the Urfahr district. He borrowed an e-scooter to pursue a man who previously caused property damage.

David M. (26) and his colleague had observed a 22-year-old driver of a small truck hitting a car parked next to it when parking on Altomontestraße, they stopped their police car and got out. The 22-year-old did the same, but he banged his exterior mirror on the driver’s door of the parked car. Escape on foot However, he ignored the request to show his driver’s license and license, and instead ran away suddenly in the direction of the city. He walked through an archway to Linke Brückenstrasse and on to Ontlstrasse. The policeman pursued him and met a passer-by with an e-scooter at a pedestrian crossing. Scooter confiscated. The fugitive meanwhile continued through a garden, squeezed through a hole in a chain link fence and lifted a garden gate to pass through. It is thanks to the police officer’s good local knowledge that he was able to skilfully avoid these impassable spots and not lose sight of the fugitive and indicated that he was giving up. Now he identified himself and told the officer that he had panicked when he saw the police after the damage to the parked car. The owner of the damaged car could thus be informed of the details of the polluter and he is not left with the damage. The 22-year-old is reported for hit and run.
