At first glance, the light green, small single-family house looks like any other. On closer inspection, the concrete base on which the house stands stands out.
A rotating mechanism is hidden here that makes the house something very special: At the push of a button, it rotates on its own axis – in the slowest mode in 24 hours, in the fastest mode in 22 seconds.
Vojin Kusic (72) lives with his wife in this extraordinary house in the small town of Srbac in the north of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Kusic built it himself many years ago, as he told the Reuters news agency. The bedroom faced the sun and the living room faced the street – as his wife had wished.
The woman always had something to complain about
Later, Kusic tore down a wall upstairs because his wife wanted to see from the bedroom who was entering the property. Then he was remodeling the house again when one of the adult children moved in on the upper floor. He had to tear down the wall between the two bedrooms to convert it into a living room and move all the installations.
At some point, Kusic got tired of his wife’s complaints and frequent renovations. That’s why he said to his wife: “I’ll build you a rotating house so that you can turn it as you want.” So he constructed a rotating mechanism using wheels from an old military truck and electric motors under the house. He worked on this special production for six years.
Despite heart problems, Kusic finished the house
During the construction period, Kusic had to be admitted to the hospital once because of heart problems. “I asked the doctors to extend my life for at least a year because I had this project on my mind,” he says. Nobody else could have ended it.
Now the house can be turned at the push of a button. And Kusic is proud of his work. “If my wife sees uninvited guests approaching us, she can turn the house and get them to leave.” What the woman thinks of her rotating house is not known. According to the news agency, she did not want to comment. (gin)
