The operator Bouygues Telecom has had a successful 2021 by managing to recruit several hundred thousand subscribers, both on landline (and fibre) and on mobile, with a sharp increase in turnover.

In the footsteps of an already successful 2020, Bouygues Telecom entered 2021 with a smile on its face. The operator generated, over the whole year, a turnover of 7.3 billion euros, an increase of 13% compared to the previous year, when it was already increasing (+ 6% in 2020). The company, a subsidiary of the construction group, is therefore in a very positive commercial dynamic. This was materialized by strong growth in its fixed and mobile subscribers, and a net profit of 403 million, 26 million euros higher than in 2020.

More than 700,000 new fiber optic subscribers

Bouygues Telecom had a good year in the fixed line, with an overall gain of 278,000 subscribers. A very correct result that we obtain by combining departures in traditional fixed technology (ADSL, VDSL) and recruitments on the FttH.

Optical fiber precisely, not Bouygues Telecom’s strong point at the start, is an integral part of the firm’s strategy. It is clear that the company has not done too badly this past year. In the space of a year, the number of FttH subscribers increased from 1.6 million to 2.3 million at the end of 2021 (4.4 million all fixed technologies combined). In total, the company signed 718,000 new fiber subscriptions.

This is obviously much less than the market leader Orange, which won 1.4 million new fiber customers. But Bouygues is still doing better than in 2020, when the operator had recruited 604,000 subscribers. It should be noted that now more than half of fixed customers have an FttH offer. In 2020, this ratio was only 38%. The presence of Bouygues Telecom fiber in all departments of the metropolis can undoubtedly help.

“Regularity”, a key word on mobile since 2015

On mobile, Bouygues Telecom recruited 569,000 new customers in 2021, a good performance which is only slightly down on the previous year. The operator is in any case, in this regard, a little better than Orange. Today, the Bouygues mobile plan fleet has 14.8 million customers.

Over one year, this base increased by 2.6 million, but it is due to the takeover of Euro-Information Telecom (formerly NRJ Mobile), which became BTBD, Bouygues Telecom Business-Distribution, last year. The group has approximately 2 million customers and now brings together the brands Crédit Mutuel Mobile, CIC Mobile, NRJ Mobile, Auchan Télécom and Cdiscount Mobile, all MVNOs (virtual mobile network operators) which use the networks of incumbent operators.

Bouygues Telecom has shown real regularity on mobile, with at least 500,000 new customers each year since 2015.
