Boxing: a Fury-Ngannou fight would be “stupid” for the boss of the UFC

While Francis Ngannou and Tyson Fury want to organize a boxing fight in 2023, UFC boss Dana White has given his opinion.

And the least we can say is that he is not really for this new crossover (fight between champions of different disciplines) between a champion of the Noble Art and another of MMA. “I don’t like crossovers,” he said at the microphone of the Pat McAfee Show. Why ? Because they are stupid. A waste of time, energy and money. It’s silly.”

It must be said that the heavyweight boxing champion, undefeated in 33 fights (32 wins, one draw) and holder of the WBC and The Ring belts (undisputed champion in his category) and the heavyweight boss of the UFC, who has brilliantly defended his belt against Frenchman Cyril Gane, want to follow in the footsteps of the Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor fight in 2017.

“This Conor-Floyd fight came to life on its own,” Dana White said. Everywhere I went, that was all people talked to me about. We were at a point where the fans wanted to see this fight and so did the media. But people don’t break down our door to see Fury-Ngannou. (…) They talked about it, all that, but this fight is clearly not over yet. We’ll see how things go.”

White still delivered a prognosis between the two men if the fight were to take place. “Fury is one of the greatest of all time. Look who he beat, how he beat them… Francis beat Ciryl Gane with wrestling. Wanting to compete with one of the best heavyweights in boxing is crazy,” explains the American.
