Former heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson returns to the boxing ring for an exhibition fight. His opponent is YouTube star Jake Paul. The fight is scheduled to take place at AT&T Stadium in Dallas. The football arena can accommodate up to 100,000 spectators.
Former heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson gets into the ring again in his old age. The 57-year-old American will take on his compatriot Jake Paul, who is 30 years his junior, in an exhibition fight on July 20th. The YouTuber and actor Paul has been trying out a boxing career since 2018. The fight will take place in the stadium of the Dallas Cowboys football club, which has space for 100,000 spectators, and will also be broadcast by Netflix. The streaming service does not charge its subscribers any extra fees for the duel.
Tyson announced that he wanted to “end” Paul’s short career: “It will be a lot of fun to see what the will and ambition of a child can do with the experience and talent of a GOAT (Greatest of All Time). can,” he said. For Paul, the fight against legend Tyson is primarily to make his name better known and to earn a lot of money. The duel has hardly any sporting value.
The fight continues the recent trend of internet celebrities competing against each other or against prominent boxers long past their prime. Jake Paul’s brother Logan Paul, who faced boxing icon Floyd Mayweather in 2021, played a key role in this development. The fight ended with a chorus of whistles from fans as Mayweather barely threw any serious punches for eight rounds.
