brake for Hello bank!, Nickel progresses

Hello bank!, the online banking brand of BNP Paribas, attracted slightly fewer customers in France in 2023 than it did in 2022, according to figures provided by the group on the occasion of the presentation of its annual results. Nickel, for its part, continues to open more and more accounts.

BNP Paribas presented record results this morning for the year 2023, with a net result of nearly 11 billion euros. What about Hello bank!, the mobile banking brand, and Nickel, its subsidiary specializing in payment accounts?

The press release released this morning by the banking group devotes one sentence to them: Customer acquisition at Hello bank! continues with 463,000 new customers in 2023 (+35.7% compared to December 31, 2022) and the rate of account openings at Nickel is high (+22.8% compared to December 31, 2022).

53,000 additional accounts in one year

Contacted by MoneyVox, BNP Paribas communication provided some additional figures. At the end of 2023, Hello bank! counted 813,000 individual customers, compared to 760,000 a year earlier. Be one net increase of 53,000 accounts in one year, a lower performance in 2022 (+80,000). Very far from the market leader, BoursoBank, which captured 412,000 new customers in the 3rd quarter of 2023 alone.

Most of the 463,000 new customers claimed by BNP Paribas were therefore capt outside France, in Belgium and Germany, since the figure does not take Italy into account. Hello bank! does not communicate the number of customers convinced by its Hello Business offer, launched in 2021 for professionals.

The goodwill of Hello bank! expected to grow more quickly in 2024, with reduced competition. BNP Paribas does indeed favorite to take over Orange Bank customerswhich is expected to close its doors in the coming months.
