The American reached the final of a WTA tournament for the first time – and at the 1000 level.
She is already 25 years old, but has not yet broken any major ties in professional tennis: Caroline Dolehide, number 111 in the world and mostly at the ITF level, where she won at least 6 titles.
Now the right-hander from Illinois celebrated the greatest success of her career: with a 7:5, 6:3 over former Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin (USA/WTA 53), Dolehide reached the final of the WTA 1000 tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico . There she meets the Greek Maria Sakkari (WTA 9).
In reserve in both sets
As was the case throughout the week (3 of her 5 matches went the full distance), Dolehide had to prove her morale against Kenin: she was behind by a break in both sets before she managed to turn things around.
The former doubles specialist is only the second player outside the top 100 to reach the final of a WTA 1000 tournament. Before her, Svetlana Kuznetsova was the first to achieve this in 2019. Dolehide will certainly move into the top 50 in the world rankings next week.
