LONDON (Reuters) – British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will announce a bill called the Brexit Freedoms Bill on Monday that will make it easier to remove or change European Union regulations that have made it into British national law before the Kingdom UK does not leave the EU.
To avoid uncertainty and confusion upon leaving the EU, the UK government automatically allowed thousands of EU laws and regulations to apply in Britain after Brexit.
Under current rules, reforming and repealing EU law would take several years, the government said, adding that new legislation would facilitate changes to make existing regulations more suitable for Britain.
“Our new bill, the Brexit Freedoms Bill, will end the special status of EU law in our legal framework and make it easier for us to amend or remove outdated EU laws in the future,” Boris said. Johnson in a statement.
The British government has indicated that it will also publish a document detailing how it plans to use the opportunity offered by its exit from the EU to make changes to its regulatory framework and reduce red tape.
