The cast for the second season of “Bridgerton” continues to grow: Netflix has now confirmed that Rupert Evans will also be part of the party.

Filming for the second season of the Netflix series “Bridgerton” is already in full swing. The streaming service announced on Fridaythat another actor will join the cast. “Charmed” star Rupert Evans (44) will take on the role of Patriarch Edmund Bridgerton in the coming season.

Edmund Bridgerton is described as “the loving and devoted husband of Violet Bridgerton and an infinitely patient and warm-hearted father”. The male head of the family is particularly proud of how he guides his eldest son Anthony through his life.

With the announcement of the second season in January of this year, it was clear that Anthony Bridgerton, the older brother of Daphne Bridgerton, would be the focus of the upcoming episodes. The season is based on Julia Quinn’s (51) second book “How to charm a Viscount” from the “Bridgerton” series.

Edmund announced the scene in the first season

Fans of the books and particularly attentive viewers could already have guessed the appearance of the patriarch in the second season. Because the first season ended with a scene of a bee on a window sill. In the books, the father of the Bridgerton children died at the age of 38 in 1803 of an allergic reaction after a bee sting. The first season, however, takes place ten years later. It can therefore be assumed that Rupert Evans’ role will be seen in flashbacks.

It is currently not known whether a younger version of Violet Bridgerton will appear. In addition to well-known faces like Phoebe Dynevor (26, Daphne Bridgerton) and Jonathan Bailey (33, Anthony Brigerton), Simone Ashley (26), who will take on the female lead as Kate Sharma, and Charithra Chandran (24) as Edwina Sharma and Rupert Young (43), Shelley Conn (44) and Calam Lynch (27).

Filming for the new season started in London in spring. An exact start date has not yet been officially set. Shortly after the announcement that there would be a second season, however, lead actor Bailey told “Entertainment Weekly” that it could be so far this winter. In April, Netflix also confirmed a third and fourth season of “Bridgerton”.
